ACTING for VOICE OVER

August Start – 8 Weeks

Voice Over is also called Voice Acting. Anybody can READ… but can they ACT? Voice Actors need acting skills just as much as stage actors and film actors. This class is here to help! There are many different ways to approach any acting role, and you will learn the teachings of the great masters, and how to use those techniques in your voice acting, so you can approach any project with confidence. In class, you will apply these skills to a variety of characters in various voice over genres like animation, video games, commercials, and audiobooks. No pre-requisite. Intermediate level.

CHARACTER VOICES for ANIMATION & GAMING

October Start – 8 Weeks

Have you ever wanted to voice an animated character or video game character, or wondered how the process works? A few things you will learn include how to use real voices vs. put-on voices, and how to adjust your performance based on the character’s attitude and physical type, as well as the overall goals and needs of the project. No pre-requisite. Intermediate level.

AUDIOBOOK VOICE OVER

January Start – 8 Weeks

Our Voice Over for Audiobooks class is a great place to begin your understanding of the ever-growing audiobook category of voice over work. We focus on the technical (articulation, breathing, consistency, stamina) as well as the artistic (interpretation, developing well-defined voices, delivery). We give you an overview of what the industry looks like in the audiobook field while using existing novels to help you find and develop characters. You will have many opportunities to read in front of the class and your coach, helping you to enhance the qualities in your characters and in your own voice. No pre-requisite. Intermediate level.

TECH CLASS for HOME STUDIO SET-UP

March – 2 Weeks

Mics…? Filters…? Software…? Acoustic panels…? What equipment do you need? How can you optimize your audio-recording set-up? Or maybe you’re starting from scratch! Get expert evaluation, advice, and trouble-shooting on setting up your most effective (and most cost-effective) home Voice Over Studio! No pre-requisite, but students will receive instructions to submit a recording prior to the first class so the instructor can hear your current setup (not through Zoom). Teaching Artist Troy Horne has booked and recorded numerous voice over jobs from his home studio. His soulful baritone voice can be heard in TV shows, films, audiobooks, and advertisements for everything from Gillette to Pilsbury. Now a creator of projects ranging from books to music to films, Troy’s career began as a performer. He has starred on Broadway in the musical RENT, appeared on Starsearch, and toured the world with his rock band. Troy loves helping CSA students achieve their goals.

COMMERCIAL VOICE OVER

March Start – 8 Weeks

You know you hear the same types of voice over and over in ads – but what are they, and how do they get those sounds? What does it take to book? Who is your audience when you read a commercial? Learn all of this and more in this Commercial VO Class! No pre-requisite. Intermediate level.

VOICE OVER DEMO PRODUCTION CLASS

June Start – Invitation Only:

This is our most advanced voice over class with a large portion of the time being spent in a recording studio. If you are invited to enroll after taking other classes and achieving the necessary skills, you will have the benefit of Dyane Filip as your producer, working together with the pro engineer, at our studio connection. Advanced level.

Learn to Record from Home!

In today’s market, Voice Over Artists do their recording almost entirely from their home studios.

Our Voice Over classes are also conducted remotely, on Zoom!

This is in the best interest of anyone interested in actually doing voice overs,

as you will need to know how to record yourself with your own equipment.

Equipment Needed:

You will need a computer with a camera and a microphone, and a reliable internet connection.

You may already have a microphone, or headset with a microphone,

that will be adequate certain Voice Over classes, especially those that are intro level.

Your instructor will assess your microphone during the first class and let you know if you need something better / clearer.

If you do need a different mic, we can recommend some that are reasonably priced.

We can’t wait to help you explore the world of Voice Over!
